Book Chapter on Trauma
Hot off the presses: Craig has a chapter published in the new Handbook of Expressive Arts Therapy by Cathy Malchiodi (Guilford Press). This chapter, entitled “Integrative Drama Therapy in the Treatment of Trauma: Matching Aesthetic Properties to Patient Needs,” outlines an approach to treatment in which different creative arts therapy modalities are utilized responsively as part of a personalized psychotherapy process. The chapter includes five criteria for choosing arts modalities based on their aesthetic properties, which are illustrated through the case of a young adult working through his sexual abuse experience.
Endorsements for the book describe it as “a comprehensive guide to understanding the breadth and depth of expressive arts as a mental health intervention,” “tremendously helpful in moving the reader beyond abstract theory to step-by-step methods of facilitation with clients,” and “an indispensable resource for all helping professionals.”
