Recent Research on the Arts and Trauma

Craig has served as co-author of three recently-published, peer-reviewed studies on the use of the arts in treating trauma. Two of these studies, published in the academic journal The Arts in Psychotherapy, focus on the implementation of school-based art therapy with male adolescents of color in the South Bronx.The first, “Investigating Impact: The Effects of School-Based Art Therapy on Adolescent Boys Living in Poverty,” was co-authored with Kelvin Ramirez and Robyn Flaum Cruz. A follow-up study, “Amplifying Perspectives: The Experience of Adolescent Males of Color Engaged in School-Based Art Therapy” was just published.

Craig also served as co-author on a study of the implementation of dance/movement therapy with refugees that was published in the International Journal of Migration, Health, and Social Care by principal investigator Rebekka Dietrich-Hartwell. This paper is entitled “Developing Movement Experiences with Refugees to the United States who have Undergone Trauma.”
